Job summary

Johnson County Department of Corrections seeks a Correctional Advisor for the Adult Residential Center in New Century, Kansas. The role supports all ARC functions in a minimum-security setting focused on responsible choices and re-entry.

The ARC operates Residential, Work Release and Therapeutic Community components; Advisors interact directly with clients, foster prosocial behavior, and help with substance abuse treatment, education, and life skills.

Qualifications

• Twenty-one (21) years of age or older; possess a high school diploma or its equivalent; successfully pass a criminal history check; and possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Applicant must submit to and pass a pre-employment, post-offer drug screen and pass a physical ability test prior to employment.
• Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.

Responsibilities

• Interact directly with clients across backgrounds with varying criminal history to support behavioral change.
• Help shape behaviors and support re-entry into the community.
• Assist in maintaining a safe, secure, and clean working environment and conducting routine searches.
• Provide support across ARC components: Residential, Work Release and Therapeutic Community.
