Job summary

Galveston County YMCA Inc is seeking a Jailor/Corrections Officer to enforce local, state and federal laws within the facility. The role focuses on security checks, perimeter patrols, and maintaining order.

You will interview detainees, assist with classification, provide meals and personal items, supervise programs, and prepare activity reports. Requires high school diploma or GED and completion of one-year probation; Texas TCOLE Jailer Certification to be obtained.

Responsibilities

• Maintains the security of the facility by conducting security checks, settling disputes, and performing cell searches and inspections.
• Conducts outside perimeter checks.
• Reviews inmates' past and present records and related information for the systematic categorization of detainees.
• Assists with preparation of classification profiles and interviewing detainees, medical staff, and others to determine proper living quarters and duties.
• Issues meals, clothing, linens, and personal items to inmates.
• Supervises inmate programs, including recreational, legal, health care, visitation and religious services.
• Prepares reports on jail and inmate activities.
