Job summary

The County of Galveston is seeking a jailer to enforce local, state and federal laws within the facility. You will perform security checks, manage inmate movement, and supervise daily jail operations to ensure safety.

Responsibilities include reviewing inmate records for living quarters, preparing classification profiles, issuing meals and supplies, supervising programs, and reporting on jail activities. Must have HS diploma, complete probation, and obtain TCOLE certification; the employer

Qualifications

• Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
• Requires completion of one-year probation.

Responsibilities

• Maintains security by conducting security checks, settling disputes, and performing cell searches and inspections.
• Conducts outside perimeter checks and monitors inmate activity to ensure safety.
• Reviews inmates' past and present records for classification and living arrangements.
• Assists with preparation of classification profiles by interviewing detainees and medical staff.
• Issues meals, clothing, linens, and personal items to inmates.
• Supervises inmate programs including recreation, legal, health care, visitation and religious services.
• Prepares reports on jail and inmate activities and checks the jail docket.
