  • Issues meals, clothing, linens, and personal items to inmates.
  • Supervises inmate programs, including recreational, legal, health care, visitation and religious services.
  • Prepares reports on jail and inmate activities.

**General Description**The purpose of this class is responsible for the enforcement of local, state and federal laws.**Duties and Responsibilities****The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.*** Maintains the security of the facility by conducting security checks, settling disputes, and performing cell searches and inspections.* Conducts outside perimeter checks.* Maintains security of the facility by working in the control tower; locks and unlocks gates and doors as needed.* Reviews inmates' past and present records and related information for the systematic categorization of detainees.* Assists with preparation of classification profiles, which involves interviewing detainees, medical staff, and others to determine proper classification regarding assignment of living quarters and duties.* Issues meals, clothing, linens, and personal items to inmates.* Supervises inmate programs, including recreational, legal, health care, visitation and religious services.* Prepares reports on jail and inmate activities.* Checks the jail docket; observes locations and activities of inmates.* Assists with the cleaning and maintenance of the facility as needed; identifies maintenance problems.* Supervises outside and visitation times for inmates and work detail.* Assists with the transportation of inmates to such locations as medical and other correctional facilities.* Performs related work as assigned.**Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:*** Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.* Requires completion of one-year probation.**Physical Demands/Work Environment:***Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.**Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.*The work is typically performed sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.The work is typically performed in an office.Emergency Preparedness Tier Level: 1**Special Certifications and Licenses:**Must obtain and maintain Jailer Basic Proficiency Certification by the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
