The role requires readiness for academy training and stringent safety protocols. Candidates must meet minimum education and licensing requirements, be 18+ at start, and pass background checks and medical screenings.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED; MDC Lateral Entry Program with 1 year corrections/Law Enforcement experience desirable.
• Valid New Mexico driver’s license; must obtain NM license within 30 days if from out of state.
• Minimum age 18 by Corrections Officer Training Academy start; no upper age limit.
• U.S. citizen or permanent resident; provide Alien Registration number.

Responsibilities

• Assist in searching, booking, fingerprinting and photographing inmates during intake.
• Coordinate bond arrangements and legal representation for inmates; schedule court appearances.
• Maintain order; report policy violations or disturbances to supervisors.
• Patrol designated areas; ensure security and conduct inmate counts and monitoring.
• Provide grooming and supervise sanitation; administer first aid and refer to medical staff as needed.
• Participate in fire/safety drills and emergency responses; handle discharge processes and transport arrangements.
