Job summary

State of Florida at Madison Correctional Institution is seeking a Correctional Officer Sergeant for an internal promotional opportunity. This position is located at Madison Correctional Institution and is open to current Florida Department of Corrections employees only.

Duties include supervising inmates, enforcing rules, conducting head counts, managing housing, and responding to emergencies. Candidates must have completed basic recruit training and one year of certified officer experience, and

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have completed the basic recruit training course for correctional officers and have one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida.
• Must not have received a suspension within the past 12 months.
• Must not have received an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months.
• Must not have received less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years.

Responsibilities

• Supervises inmates commensurate with risk level; manages housing areas.
• Transports inmates using restraints and observes laws and procedures.
• Conducts head counts and maintains custody outside and inside secured areas.
• Performs crisis intervention and uses force when needed; body armor worn.
• Performs searches, inspects mail, and monitors inmate behavior for issues.
• Directs officers in supervision, reporting, and incident handling.
