Job summary

Otsego County Jail in Michigan is seeking a Corrections Officer to supervise inmates under the Jail Administrator. You will support safety and security, assist with booking, housing, meals, medications, and inmate services while following department policies.

The role requires knowledge of laws, use of restraint devices, reporting, and strong communication with staff, inmates, and the public. Candidates must meet state certifications, pass background checks, and maintain fitness for duty.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by college training in law enforcement, criminal justice, corrections or related field.
• Michigan Vehicle Operator’s License and MCOTC certification required.
• CPR and First Aid certification required after employment.

Responsibilities

• Process inmates through booking and release procedures and maintain records.
• Supervise day-to-day inmate activities, meal counts, clothing distribution, medications, and programs.
• Conduct facility controls, monitor cameras, logs, and inmate movement.
• Perform random drug testing and manage health care needs of inmates.
• Maintain inmate records and communicate with staff and the public.
