Job summary

Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla, WA, is seeking an AC Cook for a full-time, non-permanent role. You will assist in preparing, cooking, serving, and storing food, while supervising offenders and ensuring safety on shift.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent with culinary arts training or two years of cooking experience, plus the ability to read, write and communicate effectively and to operate kitchen equipment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent and completion of a culinary arts program.
• Two years of experience as a cook in a food service establishment.
• Ability to cook a variety of foods and follow recipes with minimal waste.
• Read, understand, estimate quantities, and follow written and oral instructions.
• Communicate effectively and schedule daily work.
• Operate kitchen equipment and maintain safety and HACCP standards.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the preparation and service of all food on a shift, including delivery.
• Supervise and instruct offenders in general cooking and food preparation.
• Supervise, train, and instruct offenders in receiving, storage, preparation, cooking and serving of food.
• Maintain and model high standards of personal hygiene and safety.
• Perform inventory, HACCP logs, and prepare written reports.
• Monitor security and intervene as needed, ensuring staff and offender safety.

Education
