Job summary

Brown County Jail is seeking a kitchen worker to prepare meals for inmates and staff, purchase supplies, and maintain an orderly, sanitary kitchen.

The role involves supervising part-time staff and inmate workers while ensuring food safety guidelines are followed and meals meet dietary needs. This position requires the ability to read, write, and perform basic calculations, with Serve Safe certification preferred.

Qualifications

• Reads, writes, and computes at a high school level or equivalent.
• Applies basic food service principles and safety guidelines.
• Serve Safe certification is required or obtainable.

Responsibilities

• Prepare meals for inmates and staff.
• Purchase food supplies from contracted providers.
• Maintain kitchen inventory of equipment, supplies, and food items.
• Store food in designated areas.
• Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and utensils.
• Washes and sanitizes dishes and pans.
• Prepare food for special diets.
• Ensure compliance with temperature and other food safety guidelines.
• Direct the work of part-time staff and inmate workers.
