Job summary

Pamunkey Regional Jail is seeking an entry-level Food Services worker to manage routine kitchen tasks in a correctional facility. The role reports to the Food Services Manager and does not supervise staff.

The position involves direct inmate supervision, adherence to FDA nutrition guidelines, and strict sanitation practices to ensure meals for staff and incarcerated individuals meet timelines and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Must be at least eighteen years of age.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years food preparation experience; corrections/institutional food prep preferred.
• Experience with ordering, purchasing, inventory and receiving preferred.
• Sanitation certification is desired.

Responsibilities

• Supervise preparation, cooking and serving of meals for staff and inmates; train inmate workers.
• Ensure kitchen cleanliness and equipment maintenance.
• Enforce sanitation and cleaning standards for kitchen operations.
• Ensure food is prepared within timelines and meets nutritional standards.
• Ensure food meets Department of Health Standards and is properly portioned.
• Supervise safe use of kitchen equipment; direct inmate staff daily.
• Secure the kitchen facility at end of each shift.
• Maintain utensil inventory and accurate records as required.
