Job summary

Texas Department Of Criminal Justice seeks an entry-level correctional supervisor and firearms instructor to support firing range operations. You will conduct weapons instruction, supervise trainees, and train staff in defensive tactics and riot control within a safe live-fire environment.

Responsibilities include maintaining range safety, keeping equipment inventories, developing training materials, and administering exams while advancing instructor certifications. Travel up to 50% is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years of correctional custody or law enforcement experience.
• Willing to complete all required instructor certification courses within 6 months of hire.
• Certification as a defensive tactics, firearms, or chemical agents instructor (or related group fitness/martial arts) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct weapons instruction and supervise trainees during firearms qualification.
• Instruct security and non-security staff in defensive tactics, riot control, and chemical agent delivery systems.
• Maintain range safety, clean weapons and load ammunition, and manage range supplies.
• Assist with range maintenance and enforce safety standards during live-fire activities.
• Develop and revise lesson plans and training aids; administer examinations; maintain training records.
• Serve as line instructor and aid employees with marksmanship training.
