Job summary

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice seeks a Sergeant of Correctional Officers - Correctional Training Instructor to lead entry-level supervisory and instructional training across state units. This role emphasizes delivering hands-on training to both security and non-security staff and ensuring adherence to agency standards.

You will travel 100% to facilities, train on defensive tactics, searches, inmate supervision, emergency response and chemical agent delivery, develop and revise lesson

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2+ years of correctional custody or law enforcement experience.
• Willing and able to complete all required instructor certification courses within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Entry-level correctional supervisory and instructional work supporting mobile, on-site correctional training delivered at units across the state.
• Travel to assigned facilities and instruct security and non-security trainees and employees in defensive tactics, searches, inmate supervision, emergency response, and chemical agent delivery systems.
• Support Correctional Professional Development Program phases, coordinate training logistics, evaluate participant performance, administer examinations, and ensure participants meet agency training standards.
• Develop and revise lesson plans, instructional methods, and training aids; observe program implementation at field sites; maintain training equipment and records; and certify staff in required skills.
• Ensure field staff receive consistent, hands-on instruction that meets agency standards statewide.
