Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent; specialized training in corrections, security, police, military, or criminal law.
• Certified or eligible for Corrections Officer certification as required.
• Criminal history background check required and the candidate must pass.
• Participation in scheduled training and career development opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Receive and process new offenders; search, fingerprint, photograph, and assign housing.
• Input and update offender files and generate incident and court reports to meet legal requirements.
• Ensure custody of offenders during transport to court, medical facilities, or other institutions.
• Coordinate offender court appearances and update Jail Management System with dispositions and release dates.
• Operate electronic security equipment in the control room and monitor offender/visitor activity.
• Perform head counts and log counts; document statistics for accountability.
• Conduct searches to limit contraband and inspect living/program areas for policy compliance.
• Arrange offender releases and assist with work release programs as appropriate.
• Draft formal reports of events and incidents; follow policy and procedures.
• Provide basic needs to offenders (meals, medication passes, basic first aid).
• Understand and implement the Emergency Response Plan for incidents.
• Assist with commissary program; collect orders and manage inventory.
• Enforce center rules; issue infractions and warnings as needed.
• Respond to inquiries from offenders, staff, and the public; direct to appropriate personnel.
• Provide training or guidance to less experienced Deputies as directed.

Education
