Job summary

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office is seeking experienced Corrections Deputies as lateral hires. The role offers a maximum of $33.05 per hour plus 152 hours of vacation, based on experience. A background check is required before hire.

Under supervision, deputies maintain security and order in the Ottawa County Jail, supervise inmates, and enforce rules, with numerous duties including searches, escorting inmates, and reporting incidents. Must complete state training within 12 months.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; further education preferred.
• Basic knowledge of security practices and jail operations.
• Ability to prepare verbal and written reports with clarity.

Responsibilities

• Receive and process arrestees, photograph, fingerprint, and review LEIN records.
• Supervise inmates, monitor behavior, and enforce rules and regulations.
• Escort inmates to housing units and to meetings, visits, and medical appointments.
• Investigate and document inmate infractions and prepare written reports.
• Operate jail security devices and monitor access to secure areas.
• Conduct inmate wellness checks and oversee meal service and clinics.
