Ottawa County Sheriff's Office seeks experienced deputies as lateral hires. Certified officers can earn up to $40/hour with 126 vacation time, with contract negotiations ongoing.

The position is full-time across Ottawa County locations and requires MCOLES licensure or active academy attendance. Responsibilities include patrol, traffic enforcement, investigations, arrests, court appearances, and citizen assistance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; MCOLES licensure preferred/required.
• Must be licensed or academy attendee; not a sponsorship.
• Strong firearms proficiency and physical fitness required.
• Ability to learn law enforcement methods and apply them under stress.
• Good judgment, communication, and public interaction skills.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned county areas to preserve law and order and prevent crime.
• Enforce traffic regulations and issue tickets.
• Investigate suspicious conditions and possible violations.
• Make arrests and escort suspects; testify in court.
• Perform emergency response duties and gather evidence.
• Process citizen reports and provide public assistance.
