Job summary

Ottawa County Sheriff's Office is seeking experienced Corrections Officers as lateral hires to join the Ottawa County Jail team. Earn up to $33.05/hr with 152 hours of vacation depending on experience, under supervision of Jail Lieutenant or Sergeant.

The role requires maintaining security, supervising inmates, enforcing rules, and ensuring safety of inmates, staff, and visitors. Extensive background and security investigation is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associates or Bachelors degree in corrections-related field preferred.
• Must pass extensive background and security investigation.

Responsibilities

• Process and book arrestees, including fingerprints and LEIN review.
• Issue inmate supplies and supervise housing units.
• Classify inmates and assign to housing units.
• Escort inmates to visits, medical, and other activities.
• Monitor security controls and restrict access to secure areas.
• Investigate inmate infractions and write reports.
• Subdue inmates when necessary to prevent injuries.
• Screen visitors and deliver inmate mail.
• Conduct inmate wellness checks.
• Oversee meals, medication distribution, and clinics.
• Release inmates per bonds or sentences.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
