Job summary

Humboldt County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Correctional Deputy I in Eureka, CA. The role focuses on maintaining security and inmate welfare within the county correctional facility or substation, under general supervision.

The position offers growth opportunities and requires readiness for evening, night, or weekend shifts. As an entry-level deputy, you will learn to perform various duties related to facility operations, with potential advancement to higher levels as experience and proficiency

Qualifications

• Must understand correctional facility operations and inmate welfare.
• Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
• Excellent communication and confidentiality skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain centralized facility security and inmate welfare according to laws and policy.
• Book prisoners, complete forms, take photos and fingerprints, and prepare reports.
• Search, classify and monitor inmates; assign to detention areas and programs.
• Oversee inmate activities, visits, and recreation; supervise inmate workers.
• Assist medical staff with distribution of medications and emergency first aid.
• Accompany and transport inmates for court, medical appointments, and transfers.
• Inspect facilities and request maintenance; manage clothing and supplies.
• Prepare accurate records and testify in court when required.
