Job summary

Humboldt County Sheriff's Office in Eureka, CA is seeking a Deputy Sheriff II to perform a wide range of peace officer duties, including crime prevention, investigation, case preparation, and testimony. This journey-level role supports the protection of life and property while providing information and assistance to the public.

The Deputy Sheriff II works under supervision with substantial independence, advancing beyond Deputy Sheriff I after field training and demonstrated proficiency.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of law enforcement principles, practices, policies, procedures, and terminology.
• Understanding of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and standards affecting Sheriff's Office operations.
• Ability to provide a high level of customer service to the public and County staff.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas to ensure safety and deter crime
• Respond to calls for service and investigate incidents as assigned
• Enforce state and local laws; issue warnings and citations; pursue suspects when needed
• Coordinate crime scene control, interviews, and evidence collection
• Prepare case files, reports, and maintain logs and records
• Transport individuals to courts, hospitals, or other locations
• Provide emergency aid and public information; back up to other agencies as needed
• Participate in specialized details such as drug enforcement and Search and Rescue
