Job summary

The Sheriff’s Correctional Deputy Cadet - Unclassified position in Sonoma County offers a structured path into a correctional deputy role. Cadets enter a 13-week Adult Correctional Academy training program and complete exams such as an agility test before appointment as a deputy.

The County provides medical, dental, and life insurance, with a 5% pay increase after six months for performance. New cadets must meet standard employment requirements, including a background check and physical fitness

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required at application.
• Must be 21+ by appointment date.
• Valid California Driver's License.
• No felony convictions; disqualifying felony outside CA.
• Must have legal right to work in the United States.
• Pass medical exam; vision not worse than 20/100.
• Maintain physical fitness to perform duties.
• Pass background investigation incl. fingerprints.
• CPR and first-aid certification required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain order and security of inmates within a detention facility.
• Transport inmates to and from court and medical facilities.
• Supervise a crew of inmates on work projects throughout the County.
• Assist in correction of antisocial attitudes and behavior.
• Attend the Adult Correctional Academy training program as trainee.
• Work under supervision during the cadet training period.
