Job summary

ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS, REHABILITATION & REENTRY in Safford seeks a Corrections Sergeant to supervise a shift of officers, enforce safety and discipline, and coordinate inmate management. You will train staff, prepare reports, and support supervisory decisions within a 24/7 facility.

This role requires prior probationary completion as a Correctional Officer II and adherence to promotion requirements.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of federal, state, and agency laws governing the security and discipline of inmates.
• Ability to supervise staff, assign shifts, and train personnel.
• Verbal and written communication skills in a correctional setting.
• Basic first aid and knowledge of defense/control equipment.
• Experience with investigations and reporting within a correctional environment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a shift of Correctional Officers II in an adult institution and assign staff.
• Maintain security, order, and discipline; inspect areas and coordinate inmate discipline.
• Conduct preliminary investigations of incidents and prepare summary reports.
• Plan staff schedules, resolve procedural questions, and communicate with leadership.
• Attend meetings, participate in problem solving, and provide counseling or crisis support as needed.
