Job summary

The Department of Corrections - Clinical and Correctional Services in Yankton is seeking a Registered Nurse to provide daily patient care within a correctional setting. You will document, educate, and administer treatments, while maintaining confidentiality and safety.

Candidates must hold an active RN license and be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends. Strong communication skills and the ability to handle emergencies are essential in this role.

Qualifications

• Current, valid Registered Nurse license from the South Dakota Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
• Must be able to treat patients daily in various settings while maintaining confidentiality.
• Ability to respond to emergencies involving offenders or medical situations.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English (verbal and written).
• Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Document accurately and timely to maintain comprehensive inmate medical records.
• Transcribe reports at shift changes.
• Provide standardized patient education within nursing guidelines.
• Administer medications and assist with procedures as part of a treatment plan.
• Ensure medication/restocking of supplies and maintain safety in the clinical environment.
• Support supervision of staff and participate in training when assigned.
