Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Must have completed the basic recruit training course for correctional officers and have one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida.
• Must not have received a suspension within the past 12 months.
• Must not have received an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months.
• Must not have received less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years.

Responsibilities

• Supervises inmates commensurate with risk level; manages housing areas; enforces rules and sanitation standards.
• Transports inmates using restraints and observes laws and procedures; conducts head counts and maintains custody outside and inside secured perimeter.
• Performs crisis intervention including restraining violent inmates; uses approved force; wears body armor and uses weapons.
• Maintains facility security; conducts inmate searches; checks mail and contraband; monitors behavior for mental health concerns.
• Provides emergency assistance during emergencies, disasters and accidents (CPR, first aid, evacuation procedures).
• Directs staff in supervising inmates, inspecting mail, overseeing work details, maintaining counts, and running the Control Room and Main Gate.
