Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have completed the basic recruit training course for correctional officers and have one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida.
• Must not have received a suspension within the past 12 months.
• Must not have received an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months.
• Must not have received less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years.

Responsibilities

• Supervises inmates commensurate with risk level. Manages inmate housing areas, enforces rules and sanitation standards.
• Transports inmates using restraints and observes laws and procedures.
• Performs head counts, maintains custody outside the secured perimeter, escorts inmates within the secured perimeter.
• Uses crisis intervention techniques and may employ force per policy.
• Maintains facility security, conducts searches, checks mail for contraband, observes inmate behavior for mental health concerns.
• Provides emergency assistance during emergencies and disasters, including CPR and first aid.
• Directs correctional officers in supervising inmates and managing reports and master inmate location counts.
• Attends mandatory training and performs other related duties as required.
