Job summary

Florida Department of Corrections is seeking a Correctional Officer Sergeant at the RMC – Reception and Medical Center in Lake Butler, Florida (Union County). This internal promotion requires current FDC employees and involvement with security duties, housing management, and emergency response.

Responsibilities include supervising inmates, enforcing rules, processing movements, performing searches, and providing crisis intervention.

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age
Be a citizen of the United States
High School Diploma or equivalent
Completed basic recruit training for correctional officers and one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida
Must not have a suspension within the past 12 months
Must not have an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months
Must not have less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years

Responsibilities

Supervises inmates and manages housing areas
Enforces rules and sanitation standards
Transports inmates using restraints and follows laws and procedures
Conducts head counts and maintains custody outside and inside secured areas
Performs crisis intervention and uses force as required
Maintains facility security and conducts searches for contraband
Provides emergency assistance including CPR and first aid
Directs officers in supervision and reporting, and oversees inmate locations and reports
