Job summary

The Oregon Department of Corrections seeks a motivated Correctional Lieutenant (OSCI) for a job rotation and developmental opportunity. The role supports ODOC and OCE employees, overseeing training needs, personnel actions, and security operations at Oregon State Correctional Institution in Salem.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in correctional security, with at least 1 year as a Sergeant, and can obtain DPSST certification within a year.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of experience in a correctional-security setting.
• One (1) year of the experience must have been at the level of a Sergeant in a correctional system.
• Be able to obtain, within one year, an Oregon DPSST Correctional Certificate or equivalent from another government agency.

Responsibilities

• Assigning, monitoring, evaluating, and assessing training needs of subordinate staff; participating in screening process of new hires; conducting background checks and orientation.
• Resolving personnel issues and complaints; responding to grievances; conducting disciplinary investigations; counseling employees on professional growth and career development.
• Reviewing and investigating reports of security, safety and sanitation infractions; endorsing misconduct reports; ensuring corrective action and managing visits and inmate housing decisions.
• Supervising dining rooms, infirmary, clinics, housing units, segregation units; adjusting institution routines as needed; and serving as commander in emergencies until relieved by superiors.
