Job summary

State of New Hampshire, Department of Corrections, Facility of Logistical Services, is seeking a Chef II in Berlin, NH. The position offers hourly pay and a Monday–Friday style shift with weekend off, plus a trainee option for eligible candidates.

Responsibilities include supervising food preparation for inmates and staff, ensuring ACA and NH health standards, and managing dietary meals and inventory. Security/background screening required for correctional environments.

Qualifications

• Equivalent combination of 2 years of education and experience after completion of high school.
• Education and experience must be in culinary arts, large-quantity cookery, food services, or a related field.
• Must pass security and background screenings required for correctional environments.
• Trainee option: candidates with 1+ years of relevant education and experience may be considered for trainee status.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and coordinates other personnel in preparing and cooking food to serve to inmates and staff.
• Assigns work to cooks and kitchen staff to facilitate a smooth running food service operation.
• Organizes and maintains sanitary conditions and upkeeps equipment and work areas to meet ACA Standards and NH Health Department Codes.
• Receives and checks foods and supplies for quality and quantity for kitchen inventory.
• Prepares meals for special diets for distribution to various units, inmates and patients.
• Trains kitchen personnel in food prep, personal hygiene, and sanitary practices to meet ACA Standards.
