NC Department of Adult Correction is seeking a supervisory food service leader at Greene Correctional Institution to ensure safe, healthy meals are prepared for inmates. You will supervise officers, manage presentation and sanitation, and coordinate training while operating within budget and policy guidelines.

The role requires strong communication, the ability to handle emergencies, and meticulous adherence to nutrition & safety standards.

Description of Work

THIS POSITION IS A SUPERVISORY POSITION IN THE FOOD SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT GREENE CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION. THIS POSITION IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SUPERVISING THE CORRECTIONAL FOOD SERVICE OFFICERS AND MAINTAINING THE PRESENTATION OF MEALS TO THE INMATES AT THIS FACILITY THAT ARE SAFE, HEALTHY AND PROPERLY PREPARED. APPLICANT MUST HAVE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE VERBALLY & IN WRITING; COMPREHEND & ABIDE BY VERBAL AND WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS; WORK A VARIED SCHEDULE & RETURN TO WORK DURING EMERGENCIES; EFFECTIVELY SUBDUE & RESTRAIN VIOLENT INMATES; DISTINGUISH COLOR CODES USED FOR EMERGENCIES & SECURITY PURPOSES. TOLERATE VERBAL & MENTAL ABUSE FROM INMATES; SECURE & MAINTAIN EQUIPMENT; OBSERVE SANITARY FOOD HANDLING PRACTICES; UNDERSTAND FOOD NUTRITIONAL VALUES; INVENTORY & ROTATE STOCK; COMPLETE & MAINTAIN WORK SCHEDULES FOR SUBORDINATES; REQUISITION FOOD & SUPPLIES WITHIN BUDGET; IDENTIFY & COORDINATE TRAINING; MAKE EMERGENCY DECISIONS CONCERNING FOOD SERVICE OPERATIONS; PLAN AND DEVELOP OPERATING PROCEDURES

The salary grade for this position is NC07 . State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase May result.

About the Division of Institutions :

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
