Job summary

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) seeks a Teacher for Lincoln area facilities to educate incarcerated students in high school, basic education, ESL, and career readiness. Applicants should indicate which facility they are applying for.

Starting salary is $44,348, with additional pay based on contracted days, degree level, and years of experience. Salary will be set per the SCATA contract and NDCS guidelines.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: Valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate.
• Preferred Qualifications: Background working with at-risk or high-risk students and/or in a correctional setting.
• Training in Orton-Gillingham and familiarity with online learning systems such as IXL, Essential Education, or SchoolsPLP.
• Computer skills to include Windows, Word, and Excel.
• Transcripts required prior to appointment; pre-employment medical exam and drug test; paid Training Program.

Responsibilities

• Plan lessons for individual students and groups of students.
• Teach small and large group classes in math, science, social studies, reading, language, and ESL as needed.
• Work with students ages 14 to 65+ and abilities spanning 0–12.9+ grade levels.
• Utilize online resources to integrate secure technology into lessons.
• Document classroom activities and student progress weekly.
• Maintain classroom supervision and discipline while overseeing inmate teacher aides.
• Process monthly payroll for incarcerated individuals.
• Identify learning materials to purchase and develop learning boards and worksheets.
• Maintain data in Education LACES and NICaMS systems and ensure data integrity.
• Collaborate with staff to foster a team-based education approach.
• Maintain inventory and ensure tool control; monitor cleanliness and safety reports.
