Job summary

South Dakota Department of Corrections is seeking a full-time instructor to teach adult male offenders at the Sioux Falls facility. You will deliver GED-related coursework, life skills, and academic instruction, while also proctoring tests and handling administrative tasks.

The role requires four weeks of correctional basic training before assignment to the education department, with year-round class schedules and ongoing professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Licenses and Certifications: teaching certificate not required; must have a degree enabling teaching in SD or prior teaching experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide classroom instruction to offenders in GED content areas (math, science, reading and language arts, social studies).
• Proctor GED and TABE testing.
• Perform administrative duties: record keeping, class schedules, enrollment/outcomes.
• Classroom preparation, attend staff meetings and professional development.
• Other duties as assigned.
