Job summary

State of Nebraska is seeking a Corrections Unit Caseworker in Lincoln to oversee inmate work assignments and evaluate performance while ensuring safety and adherence to rules. The role supports treatment planning and requires careful reporting on inspections and progress.

The position requires an associate degree or two years of related experience, is open to individuals 18 or older, and prefers bilingual English/Spanish candidates with a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in criminal justice, behavioral science, human services or related field or two years of related experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Transcripts may be required at time of appointment.
  • Applicants must pass medical exam and drug test when applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Assign, schedule, and oversee inmate work to meet timelines and quality standards.
  • Monitor, document, and report inmate performance, training needs, and behavior.
  • Train inmates in sanitation tasks and inspect living areas for safety and cleanliness.
  • Write reports on inspections, grievances, disciplinary actions, and performance.
  • Observe inmate behavior, address issues, and provide orientation on rules and expectations.
  • Assist in developing treatment plans by researching backgrounds and counseling inmates.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations to maintain order.
  • Participate in disciplinary hearings and recommend corrective actions or program changes.
  • Overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required.
