Job summary

ND Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (ND DOCR) invites you to join James River Correctional Center in Jamestown as a Teacher. You will plan and deliver literacy, math, GED prep, and life skills in a structured classroom within a medium-security facility housing adult males.

You’ll adapt instruction for diverse learners, utilize approved software, and assess progress to develop individualized learning plans.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of educational programming and instructional practices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with adults in custody daily.
• Ability to function as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver daily instruction in literacy, mathematics, GED prep, and life skills as appropriate.
• Adapt instruction for diverse learning needs and backgrounds.
• Use approved educational software and JRCC-approved technology.
• Assess student levels and develop individualized learning plans.
• Monitor progress and maintain accurate records.
• Administer TABE and GED and track outcomes.
• Maintain a safe, structured classroom within the correctional setting.
• Promote engagement, accountability, and positive behavior.
• Collaborate with correctional staff to ensure safety and security protocols.
• Participate in meetings, in-service training, and ongoing collaboration with staff.
• Complete required Correctional Officer training and annual training.
• Stay current with educational best practices and correctional standards.
