As a Corrections Officer, you will:

  • Maintain the safety and security of residents, staff, visitors, and the community.
  • Build professional relationships with residents while serving as a positive, pro-social role model.
  • Communicate effectively, maintain situational awareness, and respond appropriately to prevent, de-escalate, and manage incidents.
  • Work as part of a highly collaborative team to maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Demonstrate reliability by arriving on time, reporting for scheduled shifts, and following established procedures for requesting leave or reporting absences.
  • Support rehabilitation by encouraging accountability, personal growth, and positive behavior.
  • Respond calmly and confidently during emergencies using your training and sound judgment.

Minimum Qualifications

The ND DOCR recognizes different levels of experience and education when determining placement as a Corrections Officer. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for placement as a Corrections Officer I or Corrections Officer II based on their education and experience.

Corrections Officer I - $24.62/hour
  • Entry-level position
  • Requires a high school diploma or GED
  • No prior corrections experience required
  • Paid training provided
Corrections Officer II - $26.48/hour
  • For candidates with prior relevant experience or education
  • Requires a high school diploma or GED, plus one of the following:

Must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements, including a criminal background check and fingerprinting, and demonstrate a commitment to professionalism, integrity, and teamwork.
