Job summary

County of Humboldt in Eureka, CA seeks a motivated Correctional Deputy I to assist in maintaining facility security and inmate welfare. You will learn jail operations under supervision, performing inmate processing, reports, and coordination with medical staff on a daily shift basis. This role requires a high school diploma or GED, U.S.

citizenship, and the ability to pass a detailed background check. Evening, night and weekend shifts may be required; opportunities for advancement exist within

Qualifications

• Knowledge of correctional facility operations and inmate handling.
• Ability to follow laws, codes and regulations governing inmate detention.
• Ability to communicate clearly and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Maintain facility security and inmate welfare.
• Book prisoners, take photographs and fingerprints, and complete reports.
• Search, interview, classify, and supervise inmates and trustees.
• Assist medical staff with medication distribution and medical requests.
• Transport inmates for court, medical visits, and transfers.
• Prepare written reports and maintain accurate records.
