Job summary

The County Sheriff's Office is recruiting a Sheriff's Correctional Deputy Cadet - Unclassified. This trainee enters the training to join deputies responsible for inmate order and safety, transports to court and facilities, and supervises inmate work crews within the County.

The program includes a 13-week Adult Correctional Academy; benefits cover medical, dental and life insurance. Agility testing, medical exams, and a thorough background investigation are required, along with CPR/First Aid

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED at the time of application.
• Applicants who have passed their 20th birthday may submit an application but cannot be appointed until they have reached their 21st birthday.
• Possession of a valid California Driver's License prior to appointment.
• Have never been convicted of a felony; disqualifying factors for felonies.
• Must possess the legal right to work in the United States.
• Must be able to pass a thorough medical examination; vision standards apply.
• Must demonstrate and maintain physical fitness to perform job duties.
• Must pass a complete background investigation including fingerprints.
• Sheriff's Correctional Deputies are required to maintain CPR and first-aid training.

Responsibilities

• Maintain order and security of inmates within a detention facility.
• Transport inmates to and from court, medical facilities, and other locations.
• Supervise a crew of inmates on work projects.
• Assist in correcting antisocial attitudes and behavior.
• Attend the 13‑week Adult Correctional Academy training program as a trainee.
