Qualifications

• Knowledge of supportive counseling techniques.
• Must be eligible for certification by the NC Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
• Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302).
• Pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
• Complete medical and psychological evaluations.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Carry a caseload of male medium custody offenders with supportive counseling and recommendations to the classification committee.
• Assist in coordinating major rehabilitation programs (education, work assignments, recreation) and transition planning.
• Work under stressful conditions with incarcerated individuals who can be violent or verbally abusive.
• Prepare written reports and forms reflecting information from multiple sources.
• Demonstrate and instruct offenders in proper and safe use of tools, equipment, and supplies.
