Hitachi Astemo Americas, Inc. is seeking a Warranty Analyst to serve as the lead interface between customer quality, engineering, and manufacturing. You will pull and analyze warranty data from OEM systems to support information requests and drive cost reductions.

The role requires collaboration with plants, suppliers, and Hitachi Design Group to identify root causes and implement cross-functional actions to lower warranty costs. Travel up to 30% may be required.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of warranty analysis experience with emphasis on Toyota Supplier Warranty Cost Share, Ford and GM warranty systems.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% to support customer needs.
  • Ability to self-prioritize and work efficiently both alone and in groups.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Shainin Red X certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide up-to-date warranty data and analysis to OEMs and Hitachi Manufacturing sites.
  • Manage warranty part returns and present teardown analysis to customers.
  • Identify root causes and drive cross-functional actions to eliminate warranty causes.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and accounting to reduce warranty debits by OEMs.
  • Lead warranty recovery efforts through chargebacks and disputes.
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations for customer visits to Hitachi facilities.
  • Coordinate with purchasing and engineering to secure new business.
  • Use data to reduce warranty ownership percentages by OEMs.
  • Provide updates to customers on warranty improvement items.
  • Ensure action timelines are clear and met across plants.

Job Description:

Summary: The applicant would be the lead warranty interface between the customer quality and engineering departments and the manufacturing facilities. Using OEM warranty systems, warranty data would be pulled and analyzed to suite both OEM warranty information requests as well as internal requests. Applicant would be required to work closely with the plant to ensure that the data is used to drive costs associated with warranty down.

Essential Functions: Includes the following:

  • Provide up to date warranty data and analysis to OEMs and Hitachi Manufacturing sites
  • Managing of warranty part returns at OEM warranty center and present warranty teardown analysis
  • Ensure that affected plants and Hitachi Design Group understand the root causes of warranty found through part returns and that cross-functional actions are quickly taken to eliminate said cause
  • Work with Hitachi manufacturing and accounting dept to evaluate and reduce warranty debits by OEM
  • Work with OEMs and Hitachi Accounting dept to lead warranty recovery efforts through pass-thru chargebacks, warranty claim disputes, warranty share rate negotiations
  • Collaborate with team to ensure PowerPoint presentations are compiled for customer visits to Hitachi’s various manufacturing facilities.
  • Work with internal purchasing and engineering teams to ensure Hitachi is prepared to acquire new business
  • Use data to drive ownership percentages down as they pertain to warranty bills by OEMs
  • Provide continuous updates to customers pertaining to status of warranty improvement items
  • Ensure that manufacturing facilities establish clear and concise timelines for when action items will be implemented and ensure they work towards meeting these timelines

Qualifications:

Knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in Warranty analysis with emphasis on Toyota Supplier Warranty Cost Share process; Ford Customer Portal and Warranty Management Systems (GWC, GSAR, Covisint); GM Customer Portal and Warranty Management system (TF, OWT Terms & Conditions).
  • Must be willing to travel to support customer needs (frequency up to 30%)
  • Ability to self-prioritize and work efficiently both alone and in groups
  • Preference to Certification in formal problem-solving methodologies: Six Sigma Black Belt, Shainin Red X, etc.

Additionally, the ability to work independently with minimal direction is required as are strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience with PCs and application software, such as MS Office tools is also required.

Education: Bachelor's Degree with 3 – 5 years and/or Master’s degree with 1 – 2 years in Engineering or Manufacturing related with a preference to Quality focus

Experience: Minimum of 1-3 years applicable experience in automotive

Job level determined by various factors such as organization size, responsibility, career stage, and capabilities.

Supervisory Responsibilities: leading and mentoring the efforts of engineers who are responsible for sub-project activities.

Working conditions:

Physical Demands: Required to sit or stand for long periods of time. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

Travel: Up to 30% domestic and international travel may be required. Travel may include visiting customers, suppliers, and manufacturing sites.
