Job summary

Ascendo Resources is partnering with a growth-focused hospitality company to recruit an experienced Controller to lead the accounting organization. The role drives monthly closes, accuracy in financial reporting, and scale of internal controls as the business grows.

The Controller will own policy documentation, system improvements and external audits, while developing a high-performing team across multiple locations and functions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• CPA strongly preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with leadership responsibility.
• Experience within a complex, multi-unit or high-growth organization.
• Hospitality, retail and other multi-location industry experience strongly preferred.
• Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and strong technical accounting capabilities.
• Experience leading complex close processes, external audits and internal-control development.
• SOX and/or public-company experience strongly preferred.
• Experience implementing, optimizing or scaling ERP and financial systems.
• Track record of building and scaling accounting teams, processes and infrastructure.
• Public accounting experience is a plus.
• Strong executive communication skills and a hands-on, builder mentality.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Accounting function and oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including GL, AP, treasury, lease accounting and related functions.
• Own monthly, quarterly and annual close and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Strengthen financial reporting, accounting policies, documentation and internal controls as the organization continues to scale.
• Serve as the technical accounting subject-matter expert across complex accounting matters.
• Lead external audits and continue developing the control environment to support future SOX/public-company readiness.
• Oversee accounting related to new locations, capital expenditures, fixed assets, leases and development activity.
• Partner closely with Finance, Operations and other functional leaders across the organization.
• Drive improvements across financial systems, automation and accounting processes.
• Build, coach and develop a high-performing Accounting organization.
