Job summary

Hirewell is seeking a Corporate Accountant to lead core accounting operations, strengthen financial reporting, and drive process improvements. You will oversee the monthly close, consolidate reporting, and optimize systems while partnering with operational teams in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate brings at least 2 years of accounting experience, a Bachelor’s in Accounting, and strong Excel skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA track strongly preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of professional accounting experience; 3–7 years in construction, engineering, or manufacturing OK.
• Advanced Excel proficiency; BI tools or ERP systems experience a plus.
• Strong GAAP knowledge and understanding of debits/credits.
• Detail oriented, proactive, and able to operate in a fast-paced environment with high standards.
• Effective communication and cross-functional partnering skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly close activities across multiple entities.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements, including consolidated reports.
• Review balance sheet reconciliations and intercompany schedules.
• Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, debt activity, and cross‑entity allocations.
• Analyze operating costs, variances, and provide insights into trends.
• Evaluate profitability metrics, WIP activity, and billing positions.
• Maintain fixed asset and debt schedules with accuracy.
• Process high-volume invoice data uploads for various operational categories.
• Support inventory balancing and collaborate with AP and purchasing teams.
• Build system reports and BI dashboards; troubleshoot accounting systems.
• Prepare schedules and documentation for external audits, insurance renewals, and regulatory filings.

What You’ll Do

• Financial close leadership Oversee monthly close activities, ensuring timely and accurate reporting across multiple entities.
• Financial statement preparation Compile monthly and quarterly financials, including consolidated reporting and affiliated entity statements.
• Account reconciliation oversight Review balance sheet accounts, resolve discrepancies, and maintain clean intercompany schedules.
• Journal entry management Prepare and review recurring and complex entries such as accruals, debt activity, and cross‑entity allocations.
• Operational cost and variance analysis Analyze operating expenses, investigate variances, and provide insight into trends affecting financial performance.
• Project and margin analysis Evaluate profitability metrics, WIP activity, and billing positions to support operational decision‑making.
• Fixed asset and debt tracking Maintain schedules for assets, depreciation, and debt, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• High‑volume data processing Manage large invoice data uploads for fuel, telecom, and other operational categories.
• Inventory and purchasing support Resolve PO discrepancies, support inventory balancing, and collaborate with AP and purchasing teams.
• System reporting and optimization Build custom reports using business intelligence tools and serve as an internal resource for accounting system troubleshooting.
• Audit and compliance preparation Prepare schedules and documentation for external audits, insurance renewals, and regulatory filings.

Ideal Background

• Education Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA or CPA track strongly preferred.
• Experience Minimum 2 years of professional accounting experience. Open to candidates coming from public accounting OR those stepping up from private industry roles with 3-7 years of experience (construction, engineering, or manufacturing industry experience preferred.)
• Technical skills Advanced Excel required. Experience with business intelligence tools or construction/manufacturing ERP systems is a plus.
• Accounting depth Strong understanding of GAAP, debits/credits, and the broader financial picture of how an organization operates.
