Job summary

CMC, a Fortune 500® company, invites engineers to join a development program that rotates through Mills, Fabrication, Recycling, and Emerging Businesses. You will apply Lean, Six Sigma, and Continuous Improvement to boost safety, quality, productivity, and costs.

You will analyze data, lead or support projects, complete a capstone project, and gain hands-on field experience across multiple facilities while training on equipment and safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required; Chemical or Mechanical preferred.
  • Exposure to Lean Six Sigma projects (Yellow Belt or higher).
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen or Operational Excellence preferred.
  • Ability to analyze data and drive practical, sustainable improvements.
  • Willingness to work across multiple CMC facilities and in varying conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Continuous Improvement tools to enhance safety, quality, productivity, and cost.
  • Analyze process performance using data-driven methods to identify waste and improvement opportunities.
  • Lead or support process improvement projects and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Rotate through Mills, Fabrication, Recycling, or Emerging Businesses Group.
  • Complete and present a capstone project at conclusion of program.
  • Work in field roles to learn processes and procedures.
  • Train on and safely operate mechanical equipment as required.
  • Participate in the CMC Safety Programs and uphold the CMC Safety Culture.
  • Gain hands-on experience with large-scale manufacturing processes and production systems.

What You’ll Do

  • Rotate through the functional areas of our core lines of business (Mills, Fabrication, Recycling, or Emerging Businesses Group such as Construction Services)
  • Complete and present a capstone project at conclusion of program
  • Work in field roles to learn processes and procedures
  • Train on and Safely operate mechanical equipment as required
  • Participate in the CMC Safety Programs and proactively uphold the CMC Safety Culture
  • Gain hands on experience with large-scale manufacturing processes, equipment, material flow, and production systems
What You’ll Need
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, optimization, and continuous improvement methodologies preferred
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or Operational Excellence initiatives preferred
  • Ability to analyze data, solve complex problems, and drive practical, sustainable improvements
  • Ability to work at a variety of CMC Facilities; to include working outside in hot/cold/wet conditions, heights and/or unique situations
  • Ability to work within all levels of the organization (shop floor to upper management)
  • Possess High Integrity and work under the guidelines of CMC's core values
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and be available upon the needs of the business; to include occasional shift work
  • Understanding of the industrial manufacturing environemnt, including shop-floor operations and production workflows
Your Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree preferred
  • Exposure to Lean Six Sigma projects (Yellow Belt or Higher)
