Job summary

CMC is hiring for a 12-hour shift role in its heavy industrial operations. You’ll learn rolling mill systems, assist corrective actions, and direct bundling operations to ensure accurate counts and secure ties. Proficiency with crane rigging, torch, grinder, and Mill Operation Systems is valued.

You must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, work in extreme conditions, and communicate effectively in English. Company benefits include Day 1 coverage and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year field experience in heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Steel industry experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Stand for the duration of shift and perform physical tasks.
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, dust, noise, and confined spaces.
  • Team player in a fast-paced environment with strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Must work a 12-hour shift including overtime, weekends and holidays.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must learn quickly and multitask.
  • Strong English communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop general knowledge of rolling mill systems to identify offsets and assist corrective actions.
  • Direct bundling to ensure correct counts and tie positions.
  • Obtain order specs, rolling sequences, counts, and lengths.
  • Make minor adjustments to bundling sequence and setup.
  • Operate and become proficient with equipment (crane, torch, grinder, pneumatic tools) and Mill Operation Systems.
  • Demonstrate dependability in attendance and flexibility to meet business needs.
  • Troubleshoot problems using knowledge and collaboration.
  • Participate in CMC Safety Programs and uphold safety culture.
  • Work safely following PPE and safety rules.
  • Understand start-up, shutdown, and emergency procedures.

What You'll Do
  • Develop a general knowledge with all Rolling Mill systems so as to recognize offset conditions and assist to implement corrective actions, changes or adjustments to maintain effective Rolling Mill operations
  • Direct bundling operation to ensure correct bundle piece counts and number and position of ties
  • Obtains information concerning order specifications, rolling sequences, piece counts, product length and bundling perimeters, etc
  • Makes minor adjustment to bundling sequence, ie, tyers, back stops, position on surge table, etc
  • Become proficient in using all other equipment and tools (crane rigging and operations; torch, grinder and pneumatic tools; other hand tools; Mill Operation Systems, eg, QMOS, OWS, etc) to maintain effective Rolling Mill operations
  • Demonstrates dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs
  • Ability to troubleshoot work related problems using job knowledge, experience, and by communicating with others
  • Participate in the CMC Safety Programs and proactively uphold the CMC Safety Culture
  • Work safely to prevent on the job injuries by always following safety rules and regulations including proper wearing of company PPE
  • Understand start up, shutdown, and emergency procedures
What You'll Need
  • Minimum 1 year field experience in either heavy industrial operations and/or manufacturing environment preferred
  • Steel industry experience is preferred
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand for duration of shift; frequent physical activity such as walking, climbing stairs or reaching to work with equipment throughout the entire shift
  • Ability to work with exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, dust fumes and mists, uneven surfaces, loud noise, elevated work areas, and confined spaces
  • Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment with strong work ethic, attention to detail, and organizational skills
  • Must be able to work a 12 hour shift, which includes overtime, weekends and holidays
  • Basic computer skills
  • Must be able to learn quickly and multitask
  • Strong communication skills required. Must read, speak and understand English language in verbal and written communication
