Job summary

Tenet Healthcare's DMC University Laboratories seeks a Lab Assistant for the Core Laboratory in Detroit. The role involves pre-analytical and post-analytical tasks, specimen handling, and data entry with attention to safety and quality standards.

You will interact with patients and health professionals, maintain equipment, and support daily lab operations in a fast-paced clinical setting. Evening hours with routine responsibilities and OSHA guidelines apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Six months experience in medical training or related field preferred.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Phlebotomy certification preferred for phlebotomist candidates.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize incoming specimens and process them per safety guidelines.
• May draw blood samples per physician order and safety protocols.
• Label specimens, perform processing and aliquoting as required.
• Ensure specimen integrity and proper patient identification.
• Enter and review lab data in the system; correct errors per policy.
• Explain procedures to patients and answer routine questions.
• Maintain a clean work area and stock supplies; assist with transport.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent education

Six months experience in medical training, and/or certification

Basic medical terminology studies

Phlebotomy Certification preferred
