Job summary

JMC Jefferson Medical Center is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to oversee operations across multiple lab sections, ensuring efficient workflow and patient-focused service. The role requires a strong background in clinical laboratory science, leadership skills, and state licensure compliance.

You will coordinate staff activities, participate in performance evaluations, and work with hospital leadership to maintain quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a medical laboratory discipline or related field and relevant licensure.
• Four years of experience as a Medical Technologist/MLT/Cytotechnologist/Histotechnologist.
• Current licensure requirements per state, with WV licensure if applicable.
• Preferred ASCP/AMT certification in MLS/MLT/CT/HTL.

Responsibilities

• Supervise all lab areas to ensure proper staffing and patient care.
• Participate in staff orientation and performance evaluations.
• Coordinate transport of reference laboratory specimens and timely results.
• Oversee LIS downtime and coordinate with technical staff.
• Operate and supervise laboratory equipment per SOPs and ensure specimen prep.
• Develop/update standard operating procedures and department policies.
• Maintain knowledge of hospital policies and union agreements; apply consistently.
• Respond to inquiries and monitor customer service and specimen processing.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Cytotechnology, Histotechnology (Medical Laboratory Science) or related field

Associate’s Degree in Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Technology or related field

Current licensure as required by the state in which services will be provided

ASCP/AMT certification: MLT/MLS/CT/HTL
