Job summary

Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston seeks a Core Laboratory Director to provide administrative, operational, and strategic leadership for the centralized lab, ensuring high-quality diagnostic testing across departments.

This role oversees automation platforms, LIS, middleware, and workflow optimization while managing staffing, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance to support timely clinical decisions and patient safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in clinical laboratory science, medical technology, chemical, biological, or physical science.
• ASCP MLS certification preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of supervisory and 2 years of directorship experience, preferably in a high‑volume core laboratory.
• Experience with laboratory automation systems, middleware, and LIS platforms preferred.
• Experience managing high‑complexity testing operations and regulatory compliance preferred.
• Knowledge of laboratory financial management, budgeting, and operational metrics preferred.
• Lean Six Sigma or quality management training preferred.
• Master’s degree in healthcare administration, laboratory management, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide administrative, operational, financial, and strategic leadership for the centralized core laboratory.
• Oversee high-volume automated testing platforms and laboratory workflow optimization; manage staffing.
• Collaborate with the Laboratory Medical Director, supervisors, hospital leadership, and corporate leadership to meet standards.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and support timely clinical decision-making and patient safety.
