Job description

The Student Assistant plays a key role in supporting the audition process for applicants to The College of Performing Arts that starts on February 27th and runs until March 8th. This position ends on March 8th. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a degree program at The New School for Spring 2025, with preference given to students enrolled in The College of Performing Arts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with Schedule Management: Help maintain and update a shared audition schedule to ensure smooth communication and coordination among the admission team and fellow student assistants.
  • Assist with Check-In: Help with check-in procedures at the beginning of the audition day, ensuring that all applicants are registered, informed, and prepared.
  • Provide General Information: Greet applicants warmly and assist with answering general questions about the university, academic programs, student services, and campus life.
  • Escort Applicants: Accompany auditioning students to their warm‑up rooms and auditions, providing a clear and calm experience as they prepare for their audition.
  • Support the Admissions Team: Work closely with the performing arts admissions staff, providing assistance wherever needed, including logistical tasks, troubleshooting, or filling in to support the team.
  • Represent The New School: Act as a representative of the university, maintaining a professional, approachable demeanor at all times, creating a positive first impression for all visitors and applicants, both online and in‑person.
  • Promote Inclusivity and Respect: Demonstrate respect, empathy, and professionalism while working with a diverse group of applicants, faculty, staff, and visitors, ensuring that all individuals feel valued and welcomed.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills: Ability to engage with a diverse range of applicants and visitors in a friendly and welcoming manner.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to maintain a shared schedule and handle multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Professionalism: Strong communication skills and the ability to represent The New School with pride, both in‑person and online.
  • Team Player: Comfortable working collaboratively with other Student Audition Assistants and the admissions team to ensure smooth operations.
  • Passion for The New School: A genuine enthusiasm for The College of Performing Arts and its academic and extracurricular offerings.
WORK MODE

This position requires in-person attendance during audition days, starting on February 27th and running until March 8th — includes weekends. Flexibility and a proactive attitude are key to providing applicants with a seamless experience.

COMPENSATION

HOURLY RATE $17.00 per hour
