The University of Houston System seeks a Coordinator, Veterans Services to provide customer service to military members, veterans and veteran-affiliated students, assist with registration issues, eligibility requirements and benefits payments, and recruit and advise prospective Veteran Students.

The role coordinates VA education benefits processing, maintains regulatory knowledge, handles inquiries, and drives outreach to engage veterans through campus programs and campus partnerships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in lieu of education.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of job-related experience.
  • Education in lieu of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the processing of Veterans Affairs education benefits by verifying enrollment, reviews student account charges and fees, along with managing documents submitted by students
  • Maintain knowledge of state and federal regulations and its impact on VA education benefits
  • Process certification/verification requests across all veteran-related bills with enrollment type and amount charges for certification for the VA, and assist students with questions related to state and federal education benefits
  • Maintain correspondence with military-affiliated students to provide them with the latest news on benefits, processes, and procedures. Ensure that data and documents are submitted to the Texas Veterans Commission every semester
  • Plan outreach activities for Veterans (workshops, stole ceremony, and community presentations)
  • Ensure all records remain safe and confidential and that the privacy of the VA student is protected
  • Coordinates VA education benefits with campus offices to ensure all requests are processed in a manner prescribed by the VA school policy
  • Ensure VA students are aware of their responsibility to the school and address inquiries about payment and benefit issues

Description:

Job Summary

The Coordinator, Veterans Services provides customer service to members of various branches of the military, Veterans and military affiliated students, trouble shoots problems with registration, eligibility requirements and payment of benefits. The Coordinator is responsible for recruiting and advising prospective Veteran Students.

Duties

  • Maintain knowledge of state and federal regulations and its impact on VA education benefits

Marginal Duties
  • Develops relationships with external veteran organizations and internal departments
  • Attends internal/external functions to promote and increase Veterans enrollment
  • Provides assistance with planning and delivering activities and programming to engage Veterans Students
  • Provides programming during orientations and campus visits to educate visitors about functions of Veterans Services
  • Maintains education and training (yearly) to remain current with Veterans Administration policies and regulations
  • Assists in guiding the Student Veterans Organization within the community
  • Performs all other duties assigned

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience in lieu of education

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working within the U.S. military, Veteran's Affairs, or military assistance program
  • Knowledge in specific program
  • Knowledge in PeopleSoft System and MS Office

  • Knowledge of trends, issues, and accepted practices relevant to the position
  • Knowledge of all Veterans Administrations educational benefits to provide guidance and education to students and other key stakeholders
