Job Summary

The Outdoor Program Coordinator is responsible for the leadership and direction of the Outdoor Program Technical Training Center (TTC), and Challenge Course (CC) facilities and programs, and contributes to special events such as Experience Weber, the Ogden Climbing Festival, Weber Outdoor Welcome and other smaller events.

Programing takes place on campus at the Outdoor Adventure and Welcome Center and Challenge Course facilities. Additionally, this position works with many on campus partners to facilitate programs at the Technical Training Center and Challenge Course. This position focuses primarily on the development, preparation, and implementation of drop‑in indoor rock climbing, group climbing, challenge course programs, and certification courses as well as the hiring, training, and supervision of 1 TTC/Climbing Wall student manager, 5‑10 TTC/Climbing Wall hourly staff, 1 Challenge Course student manager, and 5‑10 Challenge Course hourly staff. There is some crossover into the Adventure program for group climbing instruction and rappel programming.

Other Expectations
  • Monitor budgets and spending for the programs; actively seek to create new revenue streams and expand existing revenue streams.
  • Assist with assessment efforts of the Student Access and Success (SAS) Division and within the programs including basic tracking of activities, program and staff evaluation, and the measuring of learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate with SAS colleagues, academic colleagues, professional organizations, and community partners to develop mutual relationships that directly benefit students.
  • Represent the Campus Recreation Department and Outdoor Program and serve on various SAS, University, and Professional Organization Committees.
  • This position requires evening and weekend work.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or equivalent combination of education and experience in recreation management or related field.
  • Two years of relevant professional experience showing progressively responsible experience.
  • Current CPR and Wilderness First Responder.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in recreation management or related field.
  • SPRAT Level 1 Rope Access Technician certification or equivalent.
  • AMGA Single Pitch Instructor Certification.
  • SPRAT Level 1 Course Lead or Instructor Certification.
  • SPRAT Level 2 Certification or higher.
  • Ability to instruct and technical proficiency in rock climbing, kayaking, rafting, skiing/snowboarding, snowshoeing, mountaineering, backpacking, canyoneering.
  • Proficiency in indoor climbing wall route setting and risk management.
  • Climbing wall management experience.
  • Computer proficiency with database management, spreadsheets, and web page management.

Visual Acuity Requirements: including color, depth perception and field of vision. Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Work Environment
