Job Summary / Basic Function

As an Outdoor Program Rental Technician, you will be responsible for checking‑out, checking‑in, inspecting, cleaning, and maintaining outdoor equipment, as well as registering participants for adventure programs. You must have a strong interest in outdoor recreation, experience working with outdoor equipment, the ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly, and a commitment to excellent customer service.

Required Qualifications
  • General knowledge of outdoor equipment and its use.
  • CPR / AED and Standard First Aid Certification (required for working at the OP; newly hired employees can obtain a CPR certification through the Department of Campus Recreation).
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly.
  • Criminal Background check is required as a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Provide excellent customer service at all times.
  • Maintain a professional and attentive presence.
  • Experience in equipment reservation, rental, inspection, and maintenance.
  • Maintain current CPR and First‑Aid certifications.
  • Attend mandatory monthly meetings, orientations, and staff development workshops.
  • Assist customers with the loading and unloading of equipment to and from vehicles.
  • Read, understand, and abide by all employee policies and procedures as stated in the Outdoor Program employee policy and procedures manual.
  • Assist with maintenance and cleanliness of the Outdoor Program.
  • Register participants for adventure programs, clinics, and/or workshops.
  • Provide customers with information about locations and suggestions for outdoor recreation.
  • Provide general instructions on the use of outdoor equipment.
  • Follow emergency care procedures in the event of an injury or emergency.
  • Perform other duties as specified by the Outdoor Program Coordinator, Assistant Coordinator, and/or Rental Manager.
  • Be knowledgeable of Campus Recreation programs and services and act as an ambassador of Campus Recreation.
  • Preference will be given to those that have Federal Work Study status.
Physical Activity and Requirements

This position requires climbing, balancing, lifting, reaching, and repetitive hand movements. Medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly.

Visual Acuity Requirements

Ability to perceive color, depth, and field of vision is required to prepare and analyze data, transcribe, use a computer terminal, and read extensively. Visual acuity is required to determine accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of custodial work and general observations of structures.

Conditions of Work

The worker is subject to environmental conditions, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and may need to operate in narrow aisles or passageways.
