They also work collaboratively with internal Program Department Operations teams (Character Does Matter, Chapters, Service, and Volunteer Engagement).

This position operates from TMF's Midwest Region, which oversees Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, and Arkansas. About Travis Manion Foundation

Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) unites communities to strengthen America's national character by empowering veterans and families of fallen to develop and lead future generations. In 2007, 1stLt Travis Manion was killed in Iraq while saving his wounded teammates. Travis' legacy lives on in the words he spoke before leaving for his final deployment, "If Not Me, Then Who..." Guided by this mantra, veterans continue their service, develop strong relationships with their communities, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation.

Leading With Your Strengths

  • Ensure quality and consistency in program execution by providing regular feedback, monitoring performance, and identifying opportunities for local operational improvements through clear communication, timely support, and effective problem-solving — internally with applicable department operations teams and externally with volunteers and/or partners.
  • Step in to directly support or deliver planning and execution of TMF programs within the region when a Volunteer Leader is unavailable — backfilling to protect volunteer-led program continuity and sustainability.
  • Cultivate relationships with local schools, youth organizations, community leaders, and local nonprofits to build awareness and expand TMF programming.
  • Deliver, as needed, Leading With Your Strengths, THRIVE, or other applicable in-person or virtual personal development opportunities aligned with regional goals or local partnership needs.
  • Serve as the primary steward of TMF Midwest Region data, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and integrity across all systems and records that reflect regional activity and engagement. Work with internal TMF operations teams to maintain data integrity.
  • Manage regional program-related supplies and inventory, including assembling and shipping materials to remote locations to support seamless delivery by volunteers.
  • Incorporate the Beaverfit Fitness Trailer(s) into area activations, where applicable, in coordination with local volunteer events — including support of transportation, operation, and maintenance.
Recruitment and Volunteer-Led, Staff-Supported Community Engagement
  • Identify and leverage new channels to amplify the regional presence of TMF and grow the local volunteer base.
  • Cultivate relationships with local veterans, families of the fallen, inspired civilians, schools, youth organizations, community leaders, and local nonprofits to build awareness and expand TMF programming.
  • Recruit local volunteers to represent TMF at outreach events such as job fairs, conferences, community gatherings, and networking functions to bring veterans, families of the fallen, and inspired civilians into the TMF community — or attend in person if a volunteer cannot be arranged.
  • Promote TMF programs through compelling content — posts, stories, and videos — across regional social media and digital platforms, when/where applicable, to foster engagement and tell impactful stories.
Administrative and Data Management
  • Maintain accurate records within TMF systems, including but not limited to Salesforce, Airtable, Google Drive, and Dropbox.
  • Collaborate with internal operations teams to track and analyze data related to program participation, feedback, and impact to inform reporting and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Submit timely reports, evaluations, and after-action reviews to ensure program accountability and transparency.
  • Monitor and manage regional program expenses within the fiscal-year budget approved for the region. Does not hold independent authority to approve, exceed, or reallocate funds; escalates budget variances or additional funding needs to your Regional Lead.
Special Events, Development, and Support
  • Serve as a local TMF staff representative, as needed, supporting development initiatives — including fundraising events, donor engagement, and grant-related activities — in close collaboration with the national Development & Marketing team. Attending and supporting these events may occur outside traditional business hours or on weekends. Occasional travel may be required.
  • Work in collaboration with internal TMF teams to support the successful planning and execution of TMF events such as the 9/11 Heroes Run and TMF Expeditions, particularly when hosted within the region.
  • Assist with additional responsibilities as assigned by your Regional Lead or national leadership.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or prior military service; minimum of 1 year of experience in education, volunteer management, social work, nonprofit, administration, or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree or prior military service; minimum of 2–3 years of experience in education, volunteer management, social work, nonprofit, administration, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a volunteer/community portfolio independently with minimal oversight.
All Levels
  • Self-starter with outstanding attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and professional customer-service skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with others on a team and across teams.
  • Self-reliant and initiative-driven while remaining an effective, collaborative team member; energetic, flexible, and proactive.
  • Remains focused and efficient under pressure; delivers results on timelines; not intimidated by complex tasks, challenging timelines, or a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with Google Suite, Salesforce, and other systems used to manage program-related data.
  • Basic budget/expense-tracking literacy.
  • Must have a personal vehicle in working condition, a valid driver's license, and proof of automobile insurance. TMF reimburses mileage when a personal vehicle is used for business travel.
  • Dedicated to the Foundation's mission, with a passion for service and community development.
  • Preferred: prior experience with veteran-serving or Gold Star-serving organizations, or personal connection to the military/veteran community.
