Job summary

Florida Gulf Coast University is seeking a career advisor to support student internships and career readiness. You will connect students with internship opportunities and work with employers to develop internships and related opportunities.

The role partners with faculty to promote career events, plan workshops, and coordinate class presentations. You will stay current on industry trends and manage internship approvals and employer databases.

  • Consults with academic disciplines to provide internship coaching and work-based learning guidance.
  • Keeps current on trends and employer recruitment activities impacting student employability.
  • Manages the internship approval process and maintains the database of internships and opportunities.
  • Contributes to office and department-wide initiatives and programs.

Job Summary

Provides career advising support for students with the intention of preparing and connecting more students to internship opportunities. This position will also work with employers to support the development of internship and career opportunities for students.

Job Description
Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Advises and coaches students one-on-one and in group settings on topics including but not limited to internship exploration and planning, search and application strategies, documentation and internship course enrollment, professional skills development, career transition topics, and post-experience reflection.
  • Serves as a liaison between employers seeking or supervising interns and one or more designated academic departments.
  • Collaborates with faculty and academic advisors to promote upcoming career events, coordinate class presentations, and to provide support to academic internship programs.
  • Plans and executes workshops, online orientations, special events, and career fairs related to internships.
  • Consults with specific academic disciplines to provide internship coaching and career management guidance as it pertains to applying to internships and exploring through work-based learning opportunities.
  • Stays current on trends, resources, research, and employer recruitment activities that impact student employability.
  • Manages the internship approval process as well as the database of internships and employer opportunities.
  • Contributes to additional office and department-wide initiatives and programs as assigned.
Other Duties:
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • This position requires four years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.

  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
