Job summary

FGCU seeks a Career Advisor to provide individualized guidance to students and alumni on exploring career options, securing experiential opportunities, and navigating the college-to-career transition. The role also supports conducting workshops and event execution.

The advisor will develop relationships with faculty, employers, and campus partners to embed career readiness into the student experience and deliver trainings on resumes, interviewing, and job searching.

Qualifications

  • Six years of directly related full-time experience OR, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Experience delivering one-on-one or group career advising or coaching related to career exploration, job and internship searches, networking, and graduate school preparation.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Advises students and alumni on a variety of career readiness topics, including major/career choice, professional document development, interview skills, graduate school planning, and professional dress.
  • Interprets results of relevant career assessment instruments to assist clients in matching their personality, interests, values, and skills to career options.
  • Builds relationships with students, alumni, and employers to enhance career-related opportunities and partnerships.
  • Partners with faculty, student organizations, and campus stakeholders to embed career readiness skill development into the student experience.
  • Develops and delivers trainings, workshops, and presentations that enhance students' understanding of career related topics, such as resume writing, interview, and job searching.
  • Networks with regional employers to build relationships and increase knowledge of current workforce recruiting, hiring, and market trends.

  • Promotes, networks, and participates in the execution of careerfairs/events.
Other Duties:
  • Assists in the supervision of peer career advisors and otherstudent assistants.
  • Provides project management support for campus clothing closet,Azul's Attire.
  • Collaborates with faculty and other campus departments todevelop new and innovative career readiness programs.
  • May instruct career exploration or career preparationcourses.
  • Develops and updates department career advising resources andmaterials.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Additional Job Description
Required Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution in Counseling,Higher Education, Student Affairs, Student Personnel, or relatedfield.
  • Two years experience providing one-on-one career developmentadvising, including guidance on career pathways and skilldevelopment.
  • Experience teaching a University-level course.
  • Experience using a Career Services Management software.
  • Nationally recognized career services relatedcredentialing.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and regulations pertainingto the position.
  • Knowledge of current workforce trends and employerexpectations.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishingpriorities.
  • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengthsand weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approachesto problems
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively ina team environment.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills and theability to present effectively to small and large groups.
  • Ability to provide one-on-one and group career advising orcoaching to college students and alumni.
  • Ability to develop and facilitate workshops, presentations, andclassroom collaborations.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, apply, and explain personnelpolicies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate assignments to meetdeadlines.
  • Ability to work independently to complete assignments.
  • Ability to provide professional customer service.
  • Proven ability to think strategically and approach challengeswith creativity.
  • Demonstrated track record of reliability, meeting goals, andholding oneself accountable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working effectivelyacross teams.
